Elders: Pelgrimstog van Hoop starts 30 September on kykNET!
Elders: Pelgrimstog van Hoop (Afrikaans with English subtitles) is a lifestyle and documentary travel series of 13 episodes that follows journalist and author Erns Grundling on a walking journey of 350 km in the Cape Winelands and Overberg. He walks from his house in Brooklyn, Cape Town to the southernmost point of Africa at Cape Agulhas.
It starts on kykNET (DStv channel 144) on Wednesday 30 September at 20:00.
This is the third Elders series, following Elders: Die Camino (2018) and Elders: Japan (2019). In April 2020 Elders: Japan won the SAFTA Award for “Best Lifestyle Programme”.
The Pilgrimage of Hope is an established yet little known hike through towns like Stellenbosch, Pniel, Franschhoek, Villiersdorp, Genadendal, Hermanus, Gansbaai, Baardskeerdersbos and Elim. It is our own “Camino” and celebrates South Africa’s heritage and shared history as it stretches through the countryside and past picturesque villages. It has been specifically designed to take pilgrims past churches and other places of spiritual and cultural significance.
In the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, this Elders series – that was made during the Level 3 Lockdown in June 2020 – also looks at our new reality. It will hopefully inspire viewers and encourage local tourism opportunities in the region.
Elders is about responsible travel, naïve humor, finding meaning, and nurturing the inner life.
This specific series invites viewers to rediscover South Africa’s natural beauty, unique stories and welcoming people. Elders: Pelgrimstog van Hoop is produced by Bonanza Films.
